Beloved Mother and Grandmother, Norma (Needham) Conover passed away Thursday, September 14th at NHC Ft. Sanders. She was born at home on February 17, 1920 in Knoxville, TN to Hollis and Sara (Samples) Needham. She graduated from Old Knoxville High School in 1938.
Norma is survived by five children: Michael Conover and wife Colene of Kingsport; William Dee Conover III "Butch" of Knoxville, Rebecca Conover Cobb and husband Steve of Friendship, Maine; Christopher Conover and wife Connie of Norris; Kent Conover and wife Brenda of Mt. Airy, Maryland. She was grandmother to 11 grandchildren,...

Beloved Mother and Grandmother, Norma (Needham) Conover passed away Thursday, September 14th at NHC Ft. Sanders. She was born at home on February 17, 1920 in Knoxville, TN to Hollis and Sara (Samples) Needham. She graduated from Old Knoxville High School in 1938.
Norma is survived by five children: Michael Conover and wife Colene of Kingsport; William Dee Conover III "Butch" of Knoxville, Rebecca Conover Cobb and husband Steve of Friendship, Maine; Christopher Conover and wife Connie of Norris; Kent Conover and wife Brenda of Mt. Airy, Maryland. She was grandmother to 11 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. She was Aunt to 4 loving nieces.
Norma was an honorary First Family of Tennessee descending from the Fine family. She was predeceased by former husband William Dee Conover and brother, Boyce Needham.
Norma practiced nursing for 30 years at Ft Sanders and UT Hospital. She was an avid reader, family historian and hiking club member, and was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Knoxville.
She enjoyed travelling to visit family in Virginia, Maryland and Maine. In her 70's she fulfilled a dream of visiting Paris and London. After retirement she volunteered in the Foster Grandparent Program. Norma's family would like to express their greatest appreciation for the caring staff at NHC Ft Sanders. The family will receive friends from4:00 to 6:00 pm Saturday with the funeral service to follow at Berry Lynnhurst Funeral Home, 2300 Adair Drive. Rev. Deborah Conover will officiate. Family and friends will meet at Lynnhurst Cemetery at 12:45 pm Sunday for the graveside at 1:00 pm. Condolences may be offered at www.berrylynnhurst.com
